Shacket and Skort: These chic fashion hybrids are heating up winter in style

FT NEWS

It’s not that cold yet, so there’s no reason to air out your heavy jackets and sweaters. But there’s a hybrid that makes the cut to suit the current weather and won’t have you layering up either. Say hello to the shacket, the hybrid between the shirt and jacket. It’s less fussy as it is a tad thicker than a shirt, but not heavy like a jacket. It’s also a two-in-one garment as it blends fashion with functionality. A trend that has popped in from the 90s, the shacket has been seen on so many celebs of late. Amanda Holden rocked the shacket over khaki pants as she headed to work, Katie Holmes wore one on a day out recently in New York and Rihanna wore her shacket checkered style over cream sweatpants in LA.

PeeCee rocks the skort

Giving the nod to another cool hybrid fad, Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently stepped out in a skort to go shopping with sister-in-law Sophie Turner in Miami. A mix between short and a skirt, the skort is a pair of shorts worn like a mini skirt. If you’re heading over to a friend’s place for a quiet dinner or lunch, we suggest you try it. Wear it with a shimmer T-shirt and a fitted jacket, and you’re set!

The best part about a shacket is that it fits perfectly with our weather as it’s not full winter wear, but gives the feel of it. It’s casual and you can use plain T-shirts and singlets from your wardrobe with it. You can also wear a mini dress and throw on an oversized shacket. A long shacket can also make for a dressy coat. For an edgy vibe, wear a slim belt to make it look like a dress.

Tips to wear a shacked

Wear it completely buttoned up or button it halfway and wear T-shirt inside.
It can be a tad oversized, so wear it over leggings or jeans. Plaid shackets go well with metals chains and ankle boots. You can also try it with a turtleneck top. Since this makes for casual style, you can wear a shacket with black or white trainers.
