What to expect from the upcoming Fashion Week

As FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week kickstarts from today, here's what is in store for fashion enthusiasts to see. The upcoming season will showcase a host of new, emerging talent and the biggest and most established names from Delhi, Mumbai and other parts of the country that will set an unparalleled benchmark in innovations, sustainability, and creativity.

Tarun Tahiliani

Tarun Tahiliani will be showcasing his AW'21 Collection, The Reunion, a collection that marks a beautiful synthesis of craft rich aesthetics with a subtle yet modern touch. With the pandemic not only bringing about a drastic change in our lifestyle but also the way we dress, the latest collection is a fresh break from the overused sweatpants and urges a change in the mindset of the consumers, celebrating Indian fashion once again.

The Pot Plant

The collection titled Liquid Love explores the possibility of everything an individual can be, without labels. It taps into the unharnessed potential that each of us carries within us, the power to explore, imbibe and run wild. The fashion film is age, gender, and size-inclusive. The line pushes the boundaries of the traditional craft of Bandhani and Shibori in innovative patterns and gender-fluid silhouettes. The tailored silhouettes along with fluid sheer fabrics, celebrate wild, uninhibited nature that allows you to be who you are and who you identify as, without reservations.

Abraham and Thakore

The exploration of techniques such as patchwork, hand stitching and quilting, form the focus of the collection. Whilst creating ‘glamour out of waste’, a selection of evening wear in the collection, these garments have been intricately embroidered using sequins that have been made from sheets of discarded PET materials.

Gaurav Gupta

Gaurav Gupta will be closing this year's Lakme Fashion Week with Kareena Kapoor Khan as the showstopper.Taking inspiration from that and changing the concept of a runway finale- Gaurav Gupta introduces his interpretation of #DefineToRedefine - a collection that took birth in the ocean. He will create a line-up made entirely of upcycled ocean plastic. Made with precision, he has used fabrics created with wrappers of crisps and biscuits, plastic bottles and other daily consumables that have been excavated from oceans and landfills and employed to create a chunk of the collection.

Satya Paul by Rajesh Pratap Singh

The colourful and sustainable collection titled ‘The Master’s Words’ will pay tribute to the late Satya Paul who passed away earlier this year and launch the revolutionary Carbon zero TENCEL fibers. As a brand, Satya Paul has echoed sustainability over the years and experimented with a range of fabrics.

Aisha Rao

Paper Dolls is an attempt at a musical inspired by the 18th and 19th century bards dressed in fine silks and embroidered woollens singing mystic tales about their little worlds of wonder. The collection features an exciting mix of fine tissue, organza, tulle and raw silk in a line up of lehenga, saris, ghararas and more, using techniques such as applique, aari, zardosi, macrame, mukesh and basal.

Deepit Chugh

In the Gennext category two designers will be showcasing their collection with Deepit Chugh being one of them.
