A celebrity guide to contrasting your outfit with a bold accessory
An accessory can make or break a look—currently Bollywood stars are obsessed with pairing their outfits with contrasting shoes and bags. If you’re worried about getting it wrong, just look towards your favourite celebrities for sartorial inspiration. From Alia Bhatt and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja to Deepika Padukone, everyone has already given this trend their stamp of approval. Ahead, we tell you everything you need to know about bringing a contrasting colour into your look via your accessories.
Rethink your footwear
If you, like most of us, decide your footwear after zeroing down on your outfit, it may be time to turn things around. Go the opposite route this time—start with a pair of shoes in bright colours, like the runway-approved neons, pinks, florescent greens or sunshine yellows, and then build your look on it. Preferably opt for dresses, gowns and co-ord sets in shades from the opposing colour family. Take Kareena Kapoor Khan’s vibrant pink strappy heels for example, which she styled an electric blue shimmering gown with. Or Deepika Padukone’s tangerine pumps, paired with a tailored suit in blue and white stripes. And Alia Bhatt’s penchant for heels in neon colours is apparent—the actor has no qualms about clashing unexpected colours like florescent green heels with a pastel pink dress.
Make your bag count
An important accessory that can make or break your outfit is the bag you choose. While we can’t reinstate the importance of an It bag in your wardrobe, if you still haven’t invested in one, make sure you pick an option in a colour that’s far from understated. Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Kangana Ranaut are fans of eclectic shades like vivid red and mustard, which they use to break the monotony of their outfits. Case in point: Bhatt’s purple pants and jacket set, which she boldly styled with a mustard yellow shoulder bag for the airport.
