Changing A Shower Head

Wondering what ways you can update your bathroom? Many homeowners can get overwhelmed when they hear this, however, there are a few simple updates you can make in as little as a few hours and with a limited budget.

It’s true! An update like changing a shower head can help improve your bathroom in so many ways. It saves on water, can add a luxury feature to the shower and can give it a fresh, new look. Here’s what you need to know about changing a shower head.

Why Change A Shower Head?

It’s likely you use the shower in your bathroom at least every day. Maybe you haven’t given much thought the function of your shower head or just dealt with pressure or a setting you did not like. However, if you’re starting to DIY some home projects, changing your shower head to a newer model is a great place to start.

There are many benefits to this easy upgrade. Your current shower head may be not helping you save in your water consumption while newer shower heads actually have flow control to release less water, without losing the pressure. It’s an eco-friendly upgrade that can help you save on your bills and will last for a long time.

The more you spend the higher quality and longer the shower head will last. Also like many modern plumbing components, today shower heads are much more efficient than older models. Today’s shower heads are designed to use less water than their older counterparts.”

Additionally, a newer shower head can make your bathroom feel more luxe with a simple upgrade. Depending on your preferred type, it can be just what you need to unwind at the end of a long day.

Types Of Shower Heads

If you’re looking for a new shower head, you’ll notice that there are plenty on the market. So, how do you know what’s best for you and your family?

“How the fixture will be used can help determine what the best fit for the new shower head is for the consumer,” he said. “Like is there a need for a hand-held option?  There are many combination stationary and handheld models available today. There are also an almost endless array of massage spray options for the consumer to choose from.”

Here are a few shower head types you should know.

Single-Spray Showerhead

The standard shower head is a single-spray. This is most practical for households with adults who will not need to adjust the height or spray often. They are attached to the wall and tend to be the most affordable option. Many have eco-friendly features, making them an easy and popular choice

Rainfall Showerhead

When you think bathroom luxury, I would guess that a rainfall shower headlikely comes to mind. These are shower heads in trendy shapes like large squares or ovals, that mimic the feeling of standing under the rain. These are a great way to add a feature you love to the bathroom.

Handheld Showerhead

Another popular style is the handheld showerhead. This is my personal favorite because it’s not just beautiful, but practical. For the busy family, this is easily adjustable and makes washing the shower easy since you can use the shower head to rinse off areas a normal shower head won’t be able to reach.

DIY Or Contact A Pro?

The question remains, is this a DIY project or is it best to contact a pro? Zeisler advises that it is a DIY project,  but shared an important tip to those giving this project a try for the first time.

“The number one tip when installing a new shower head is to use a rag or towel to protect the finish on both the water supply pipe and the shower head,” he said. “Nothing worse than marring the finish on your new shower head during installation.”
