Spring is finally in the air, and that means we're coming out of hibernation and thinking seriously about upping our interior game. If you're not sure where to start, Pinterest has just revealed the biggest interior design trends of 2018. From the colour to buy into, to the adornments to shop, get the lowdown on the trends to inject into your decor this year.
- Maximise
More is most definitely more this year, with Pinterest calling 2018's interiors "unapologetically over the top" and crediting people's growing confidence in experimenting with excessive colour throughout their home.

Think Positive
Discussions around wellbeing and self-care seem to have permeated the interior market too, with saves for "positivity" up 430 per cent in home decor this year. Pinterest suggests "colouring your bedroom happy", thinking about "motivational workspaces" and "creating a space that boosts your mindset".

Terrazzo
"The mixed material of the '70s is showing little sign of slowing down," Pinterest says, with saves up 305 per cent year on year. Go big and bold when it comes to the prints you choose.

All Eyes On This
It may sound odd but it's true - faces and facial features are becoming favoured interior accessories, adorning the likes of wall hangings and rugs.
On The Fringe
It would appear that fashion isn't the only industry obsessed with fringing at the moment, with the trend also making its way onto cushions and curtains, mirrors and lamps.
Go Bright On Your Dining Decor
Fluorescent colours and those show-off neon signs are seeing something of an ascent in popularity when it comes to the interior design of favourite restaurant and cafes, but are you brave enough to try it in your kitchen?
Find The Perfect Match
According to Pinterest, "home decor hues just got harmonious", so consider coordinating accents - think matching your radiator to your walls, and your rugs to your paint work.
Purple Reigns
It was recently named Pantone’s colour of the year and now Ultra Violet saves are up 2675 per cent, so start shopping pieces in mauve and pansy (or if you're feeling a little less bold, stick to shades of lavender).
Make Your Mark
With people increasingly wanting to make their space - bought or rental - their own, innovative ways to inject personality into blank spaces are on the rise. Temporary solutions, like try-before-you-buy rented art and hanging pictures without nails, are up 197 per cent.
Outline Your Ideas
While excess may be in, when it comes to art it seems that minimalism reigns - with one-line drawings and simple silhouettes making up many an art wall.
Look To Wes Anderson
For those looking onscreen for their interior inspiration, the director's signature stylised film sets are firm favourites. "From The Grand Budapest Hotel’s candy pink interiors to '20s-inspired patterns and posters", it is described as Pinterest's "most opulent" interior trend of 2018.
Invest In The Big Buys
Now is the time to purchase your "long-term lust-have" - you know the kind, the classic, quality (and often statement) pieces that you'll love forever, and lug from home to home.
