How to Showcase your room in Blue and White Décor

Blue and white is one color pairing never goes out of style. Find inspiration for your own space in these 30 stunning rooms

There may be no more beloved combination than blue and white. The classic pairing—which manages to be both breezy and sophisticated at once—is a staple in Greece, represented not only by the country’s homes but also by its flag. The palette appeared on Chinese pottery way back in the ninth century and continues to be a popular choice for ceramic designs today. It's no wonder the duo is so popular around the world: When blue, calm and soothing, and white, clean and simple, are put together, you get the ultimate serene, tranquil space. We gathered some of our favorite rooms showcasing the pairing from the AD archives. Read on to see them all.

Mix and Match Patterns

In this Sig Bergamin–designed São Paulo home, artist Nathalie Morhange hand-painted the walls of the master suite. A blue Romo fabric curtains the windows, the bed is dressed in Victoria Mill embroidered linens, and club chairs covered in a Stroheim print are placed on an Arraiolos carpet.

Blue-and-White from Floor to Ceiling

New York designer Miles Redd recast the interiors of a Texas family’s vacation house at the Lyford Cay club in the Bahamas. The living room walls and ceiling are covered in a China Seas fabric, with curtains to match. The sofa is by Oscar de la Renta Home for Century Furniture, and the antique slipper chair is clad in a blue Global Leathers hide.

Channel the Ocean

Painted in a Benjamin Moore blue, the card room in designer Alessandra Branca’s Bahamas vacation homeincludes photographs by Tema Stauffer (left) and Jonathan Lewis and a table by Jayson Home.

Bring the Sky Indoors

In this elegant retreat on the island of Spetses, decorator Isabel López-Quesada carried the airy palette throughout the home. Even the exterior is white with blue trim, and a courtyard, paved with pebbles in traditional Spetsian style, marks the main entrance. Here, a kicky Kathryn M. Ireland print dresses up the family room’s double chaise longue; an IriniGonou collage is mounted above the sofa, and the captain’s chair in the foreground and the painted chest at rear left are Greek antiques.

Add Tile Accents

The tile in a guest bath of a San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, home by Fisher Weisman was produced in the nearby city of Dolores Hidalgo.

Create a Mod Look

In a house by Emily Summers Design Assoc. in the California desert, a vintage chair from Trina Turk Residential in Palm Springs sits in the master bath; the wall covering is by Élitis.

Add a Blue Backsplash

The bath in a Hamptons guesthouse decorated by Thad Hayes is equipped with a Corian sink designed by Leroy Street Studio; the sink fittings are by Dornbracht, and the blue tile is from Ann Sacks.

Try a Blue-and-White Floral

The blue master bedroom of a cottage in the Bahamas by Andrew Raquet Interior Design took shape around an Alan Campbell wallpaper; the fan is by Hunter, the headboard is by Avery Boardman, and the bed linens are by Matouk and D. Porthault.

Use Multiple Shades of Blue

Walls painted in Benjamin Moore’s Pleasant Valley contrast with an Adam Ball canvas in the master bedroom of decorator Alex Papachristidis’s Bridgehampton, New York, home; the cabinets are 18th century, and the bed is upholstered in a Brunschwig&Fils silk velvet.

Add Contrast with Black

Decorators Michael Coorengel and Jean-Pierre Calvagrac created contrast in the dining room of their Paris apartment. Charles Rennie Mackintosh chairs—some left black, others painted white—are paired with an ornate 17th-century French table, and burly wrought-iron tiebacks hold open demure silk crêpe de voile curtains.
