Vastu Tips: How a Mirror Affects the Energy of a Space

FT NEWS

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all? Who hasn’t heard this famous line from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, in which an evil queen uses a magical mirror to feed her vanity? The magic of that mirror, as with all mirrors, is its ability to reflect the reality – and, according to vastu, energies.

Traditionally, mirrors have been associated with vanity and beauty. From mirror-studded furniture to large, opulent pieces seen on palace walls, one can see the rampant use of mirrors all through history. Mirrors play an intrinsic part in enhancing the beauty of the space they are placed in.

Mirrors are powerful because of the depth they create
The basic law of vastu is that ‘energy flows where attention goes’. Mirrors, hence, become powerful tools that enhance the energy of the space they are in. We all have our own list of ideas and beliefs when it comes to mirrors, right from bad luck associated with a broken mirror to avoiding placing one in front of the bed, and many more. The truth is, mirrors are powerful not because of what they reflect but because of the depth they create and the increased amount they reflect.

Mirrors play an important role in affecting energies
Every house has a certain number of negative sectors that effect the health, wealth and peace of mind of its residents. Similarly, all homes also have positive sectors that aid in areas like success, money and well-being. Intuitively, we always know which areas in our house are the negative ones. One way to find out is by noticing which ones are perennially affected by problems like leakage, unnecessary clutter and sometimes even unexplainable pungent odours – do not place a mirror there. The positive sectors will most likely be the ones where you love sleeping or relaxing, say a bedroom, a cosy corner or even a bathroom. Being in that area in your house brings you peace of mind.

Spot the positive areas in your home and place mirrors there. Keeping one in any of these sectors will allow you to benefit from their depth and reflective powers, doubling the effect on your life. The bigger the mirror, the better, more pronounced its effect.

Do not place mirrors facing each other
I recommend such placements only in unique cases and that, too, because the depth and reflections of the facing mirrors create an infinity effect. This essentially means that even if it is placed in the positive sector, the infinity effect will end up incorporating and amplifying the negative sectors as well.

Mirrors have an effect on your life
Although an essential part of our lives and a great tool for enhancing the beauty of our interiors, mirrors make a critical contribution in influencing the turn of events in our lives.

A great tip for observing how a mirror affects you is by following your intuition and being vigilant about the effects it has on you and your loved ones on a daily basis. Experiment with them, cover them up for a week and see whether you find any changes occurring in your life. Accordingly, you can take an informed decision about their placement and also the size of the mirror you would like to have.
