Diwali 2020: statement makeup looks from your favourite celebrities you can try this year

FT NEWS

Crafting the perfect Diwali look requires a few steps: Finding the perfect outfit, sweeping your hair into a fun hairstyle and perhaps most importantly, creating the ultimate festive makeup look. This year, consider some of your favourite celebrities for inspiration, and find a new signature that you'll love.

There's nothing better than a strategically placed swipe of highlighter to supercharged tired, dull-looking skin. Mastering lit-from-within cheekbones and wide-awake eyes is that much easier thanks to this multi-masking makeup product, and your favourite celebrities know it well. When you're going out to a Diwali party or hosting dinner at home, highlighter will shine through the night. For an all-over glow, apply a cream formula to the high points of your face—across your cheekbones, down your nose and on your brow bones, like Kajal Aggarwal. If you'd like to just focus on your high cheekbones, sweep a glistening powder highlighter where the light would catch your face, like Sonakshi Sinha. Janhvi Kapoor's take is the lightest—and most subtlest approach—but it pulls its punches, with a glitter-free pigment that radiates under a camera flash.

Keep it simple with monochromatic makeup

You can apply the same shade on your eyes, cheeks and lips for a beauty look that is easier to pull off than you think, especially if your outfit is colourful and bold in the first place. Try a creamy pigment as they're more malleable—even finger application works for this kind of makeup. Samantha Akkineni matched her dusty pink lipstick, eyeshadow and blush to her sari. Alia Bhatt's high-impact palette included a swipe of berry-hued lipstick and a glossy, slightly blurred application of eyeshadow on her lids.

Play with bold eye makeup

Experimenting with bright colours and fun textures can be a great mood-booster, especially if you're playing with saturated shades that'll brighten your eyes. Karisma Kapoor's swathe of cerulean eyeshadow is a fun way to match your lehenga or sari, especially if you're going the bold route. For a lighter approach, try using an earthy tone, like Ananya Panday's brown-copper eyeshadow to create a smoky eye that's less intense than with black colours. For a fun addition, add a crystal on the sides of your lids to zhush it up like Sonam Kapoor Ahuja.
