Kareena Kapoor Khan, Priyanka Chopra show you how to wear pastels this festive season

Bold colours will always be a mainstay in traditional Indian wear, but in recent times, soothing pastels have also climbed popularity charts and become go-tos for Bollywood’s top trendsetters. Looking to bring the soft colour palette into your own festive wardrobe? Scroll ahead for all the celebrity inspiration you need for your mood board.

Deepika Padukone may have begun experimenting with her everyday wardrobe, but her favour for classic hues is well documented. Case in point: the dusty pink chikankari outfit by Sabyasachi the star chose for her mehandi in Lake Como. Her recent pairing of a peach Benarasi sari with a mint border and powder blue blouse is a 101 in colour blocking saccharine hues as well. Priyanka Chopra proved that blush tones are the perfect match for dreamy destination weddings at Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ France wedding—she stepped out in a macaroon pink Sabyasachi sari, accessorised with a rose-clad bun and minimal jewellery. 50 shades of pastel pink have won Ananya Panday and Mira Rajput Kapoor’s vote too, most often worn for wedding parties—Panday went with a part-metallic Amit Aggarwal flared skirt and crop set, while Kapoor was seen in a more elegant tulle lehenga and pearl blouse combination. Baby pink is Alia Bhatt’s top choice for the wedding season as well.

And then there is Sonam Kapoor Ahuja. Her pastel-heavy looks oscillate between old-worldly and thoroughly modern, never in between. Her printed Jodi sari with a scalloped pallu is a look you can easily recreate for a Diwali cards party, complete with vintage waves and a pearl choker. For contemporary wedding-friendly looks, Kapoor Ahuja’s combination of a pink Anamika Khanna sari and floor-grazing trench, or her sage green, blush pink, nude and pale orange lehenga set, are sure-fire winners. For a 10/10 sangeet look, Katrina Kaif leads the way in a peach lehenga with a draped dupatta and ivory cape, also by Anamika Khanna. Her Tarun Tahiliani sari in shades of blue, on the other hand, works well for pre-wedding festivities. If you’re the bride, borrow from sisters Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karisma Kapoor’s style books—a sequin-spangled sari with a bustier blouse for the welcome dinner, a heavily embroidered traditional lehenga set in pink for daytime pheras and a pale turquoise cape lehenga for the mehandi. Skip the dupatta and accessorise the latter with a choker necklace, bronze cheekbones and messy ponytail. Ahead, we list out all the times.
